Ways To Change Bluetooth and Device Name on Android

With computers, the name of the device is usually assigned when the operating system is installed or when the system is started for the first time – most Android devices have a predefined name with which they appear in the network and with other Bluetooth devices.

Often this is simply the name of the device or its product designation, but often more cryptic combinations of numbers and letters. If there are several identical devices in the household or among friends, it becomes difficult to distinguish between them in the network and with Bluetooth connections.

Adjust device name

The device name of current Android smartphones and tablets can be easily adjusted in the device settings. Depending on the manufacturer and Android version, the names and descriptions of the various menu items may differ slightly:

1. Open the settings of your Android device.
2. Swipe down to the menu item “About the phone / tablet” or “About phone / tablet” and select it.
3. Either the device name is displayed directly above with the “Edit” button or as a separate menu item “Device name” .
4. Tap on the respective option to adjust the device name.
5. Finally, you tap on “OK” to apply the change.

Change Bluetooth name

Some Android devices have a separate setting for the Bluetooth name in addition to the device name. To check whether your device has this function and to adapt the Bluetooth name, follow our instructions. Depending on the manufacturer and Android version, the names and descriptions of the various menu items may differ slightly:

1. Open the settings of your Android device.
2. Tap on the search and look for “connection settings “ .
3. Select the “(Additional) connection settings “ or tap on “Bluetooth” setting.
4. If the option “Device Name” appears here, tap on it to adapt your Bluetooth name.
5. Enter the desired Bluetooth device name and then tap on “Rename” or “Apply” .
